With the advance of technology and the continual demand for new and improved products, Marineware is often involved in product development for a specific market need or client request. This might be the development of a completely new product, or simply the production of an existing product in a special colour. Marineware provides these services through the technical departments of SP Systems, Awlgrip and Epifanes.
Often, the requirements for a new product or a product variation are highly specific. For instance, if we are working on a new epoxy resin or an adhesive, the specification would usually include working times, shear strengths and the different substrates to be bonded. As a recent example, Marineware worked closely with SP to develop the SP370 Teak Deck Adhesive. We identified the need for a flexible, tough, easy to mix adhesive that bonded well to oily teak and new polyester and, with SP, developed the 370. With a simple 1:1 mix ratio by weight or volume, it can be applied in thick and thin glue lines. Its ease of mixing and its strength match all the properties required of a high performance teak decking adhesive. SP370 has proved highly popular and is now used all over the world.
As regards colour mixing of paint coatings, we can match most requests, from RAL colours to bespoke customer colours, in both one or two pack coatings. With the installation of Awlgrip`s new Awlmix colour mixing machine at our Southampton distribution centre, we will significantly reduce the lead time on RAL colour orders.
